Abstract

A data compression apparatus for compressing a data stream, the data compression apparatus comprising a data splitter configured to split the data stream into data blocks, a classifier configured to classify the data blocks into a plurality of data classes, a reference block detector configured to detect reference blocks for each of the plurality of data classes, and a first data compressor configured to compress data blocks of a first data class based on a difference between the data blocks of the first data class and reference blocks detected for the first data class.
